What is an FD Calculator?

A fixed deposit pays a contracted rate for a chosen tenure. Banks in India often compound quarterly. Cumulative FDs reinvest interest; non-cumulative FDs pay interest out — this page models compounding on the deposit, which matches a cumulative illustration.

How to use it

Enter principal, annual rate, years, and compounds per year (monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly). Senior-citizen extra spread is not automatic: type the rate you were quoted.

Formula used

A = P × (1 + r/m)^(m×t)
r = annual rate as a decimal, m = compounds per year, t = years

Example calculation

₹2 lakh at 7.1% for 5 years with quarterly compounding grows to about ₹2.84 lakh before tax on this identity. TDS and slab tax can reduce what you keep.

Limitations

Premature-break penalties, callable FDs and tax-saver 5-year lock-ins are not modelled. Compare with PPF only after tax and lock-in, not on pre-tax A alone.
