CAGR vs absolute return

Last reviewed: 4 September 2026. Worked numbers use the same engines as the linked calculators. Not advice.

If ₹1 lakh becomes ₹1.5 lakh, absolute return is 50% whether that took one year or five. CAGR answers “what constant annual rate compounds to the same end.”

Use the calculator

The CAGR calculator needs beginning value, ending value and years. It does not use SIP cash-flows. For a monthly plan, ending corpus on the SIP tool is not a CAGR unless you compute one separately.

Limitation

CAGR hides path: a fund that crashed and recovered can show a mild CAGR and a brutal experience. It is a summary statistic, not a risk measure.
